Wind & Hail Repair

The damage repair process

Inspection

If you suspect storm damage to your home.  Have a contractor inspect for damages.  During the inspection the contractor can asses the damage caused by a storm versus normal or reqular product wear.

Estimate

Once the storm damage has been identified.  The contractor should prepare a scope of repairs and an estimate to make the repairs.

Insurance Claim ?

Before an insurance claim should be filed.  You should take into consideration a couple of variables.  The contractors estimate, your insurance deductible and is the depreciation recoverable or not.  After doing this you might realize that the cost to repair will not exceed your insurance companies settlement.

Comparison

If an insurance claim was needed.  The estimate from your contractor and insurance adjuster will need to be verified with a similar scope of work and pricing.  If they are not.  A discussion will need to happen between the contractor and adjuster prior to work beginning.

Making the Repairs

If an insurance claim was needed.  The work can start after the scope of repairs and pricing are in line between the contractor and insurance adjuster.  If no claim was need the repairs can start as soon as you agree to proceed with repairs.

Change Orders & Invoicing

During the repair process.  The contractor might find some additional repairs that need to be made to properly repair the damages.  This is a change order.  Also, know as a supplement by the insurance adjuster.  These repairs will need to be documented and submitted with the invoice.  Finally, if a insurance claim was needed.  A invoice must be sent to the adjuster so that they can release your depreciation and any supplements you incurred.
